Change of banner wording?

I need your assistance and feedback.  Having searched through many sites I am now wondering whether I should concentrate on my own name more than On A Whimsey?  As a viewer or buyer do you prefer to equate to the shop or the personal touch of the name of the artist?

It is sometimes nice to be able to relate to the artist themselves, get a feel for them, find out their likes and dislikes.  Imagine going into a shop.  Would you prefer to be dealt with by an automated machine or by a shop assistant/shop owner who actually wants to chat with you, is interested in you so that they might help you find what you want.  I know which I would prefer!

My banner has already been altered to show my real name whilst underneath I still use the On A Whimsey description as can be seen if you look at the picture below or follow the link provided.

‘On A Whimsey's Art in the Wax by Pat O'Neill’

Apparently, this will help with Meta tags which I am trying to understand at the moment!

Certainly on my Facebook I am known as Pat O’Neill and have now placed a picture of yours truly Pat in hotel pre wedding rather than the encaustic image which makes it all that more personal.

So do you want to see automated imagery or the personal touch?

By the way,  I had good reason to be really happy in this photo since it was taken just before our son’s wedding last summer.  It was really hot which is why there is a glow on the skin!

Your banner looks wonderful and I would definitely stick with your name and get it known. You are an artist and they usually go by name...
Leonardo Da Vinci
Pablo Picasso
Pat O'Neill, etc, etc!!
Your facebook pic is great too and I think lots of people like the personal touch, go with your instincts, be true to yourself, you can't fail! :0)

I think adding your name and a pic makes perfect sense. And what a happy day that was when that photo was taken!

I think it is very good for an artist to be recognized by his/her name. Which would you rather people say...."I just bought an On A Whimsy original" or "I just bought an original by Pat O'Neill"

Pat I am thinking about the same thing. Name recognition is a good thing. I wish I had taken the time earlier to think this whole thing through.

I vote for the name included as well~I've been considering this myself.

It was interesting to read your comments and thanks for taking the time out to do so!

One part of me wants to remain behind the 'anonymous' screen but then you have to be bold and step out onto the stage for others to recognise you!!

Well, I guess I'm going to be in the minority here. Not that working on name recognition is a 'wrong' thing for an artist to do -- it certainly isn't. But I have to say, I really like the whimsical online handles that I see on Etsy, Twitter, etc. I see the handle as a little peek into the character...like a little poetic bio in a way. Of course, I always like to learn about and see the real person behind the clever little tease. Eventually, I begin to think of my favorites by 'name', but I do so enjoy the sneak peek::)

Professionally I go by bdorsa & try to make that part of the url for my shops, blogs etc....when I started my LJ blog I used "cassiopeiab" for Queen B but it's too obscure for people to remember....I've got large photo galleries of my art on LJ so I've not changed the name but wish I would have used my name rather than cassiopeiab.
have a great day Pat

I agree that I prefer to deal with the artist by name, rather than some business name. I love your biz name though, is there a way to keep it sort of like as an advertising tagline or something?

I agree, it is nice to have the artist's name somewhere in the banner. I never thought of it the way you spoke of it. But I like the name of the "studio" too. So using both kills two birds as they say.
